Sensing chemicals with Light

Fiber Optic Chemical Sensors are based on transducer materials. These sensor materials change optical properties when they are exposed to certain chemical species. The optical properties used include color, fluorescence, refractive index and polarization.

Oxygen Probes  Foxy, Fospor, Hioxy sol gel coatings for measuring pO2 in gases, aqueous solutions, organic solvents. Good for high temperature and sterilization. Available on fiber probes from 300 um to 1/4" OD

Oxygen Patches  Foxy & Hioxy coatings on self adhesive patches, quartz, acrylic and other flat substrates

pH  Acrylamide and sol gel probes and patches for measuring pH in aqueous samples. turbid media, bioreactors and fish tanks.

Sensor materials must be immobilized and held in position in an optical system. The development of techniques for trapping sensor materials in a suitable matrix is the art behind the science of the sensors.

Spectrecology sells sensors based on sol-gel and polyacrylamide thin films. The sensor manufacturing techniques have been developed over the last 15 years. Indeed, Ocean Optics was founded on an SBIR grant with the US Department of Energy to develop pH sensors.

Spectrecology sells sensors based on the finest materials in the world. We are always eager to explore new opportunities for new sensors. Please contact us to discuss your applicatrion.
