Ocean Optics Spectrometers - NIR Spectrometer

Two technologies!

Array Based spectrometers

-- feature a fixed optical bench, fiber input and an array of detector elements. Array based systems are a must for capturing transient phenomonae and are reccomended for high speed acquisition in general. Units are availble in ranges from 0.9 - 1.7, 1 - 2.2 and 1 - 2.5 um. All units work with LOH optical fibers with SMA input and use Spectrasuite software

Rotating Grating Spectrometers

-- uses a stepper motor with optical encoder to rotate a grating through 45,000 steps. The detector is fixed, and because of the large area (1mm2 ) it has exceptional signal to noise. The larger optical bench permits higher optical resolution.  The fixed detectors are available over a much broader wavelength range than the arrays... anywhere from 400nm to 12 um.

SIR Rotating Grating Spectrometers

The SIR rotating grating spectrometer provides high resolution, high signal to noise measurements in the infrared (IR). The SIR is a versatile single point detector optical bench with a high angular resolution rotating grating. The SIR can be used with optical fibers or in free beam mode using direct attach lenses. SIR units measure anywhere from 400nm (visible) through 1 - 3.4 microns (near infrared) to 12 microns (mid infra red). They offer superior resolution and signal to noise compared to array based systems.

  • High resolution as good as 0.04nm!
  • Versatile -- detectors for ranges from 400nm to 12 microns
  • Easy to use, USB interface and simple software. A software Developers Kit is included for free
  • Options -- shutters, inline filters, custom ranges and gratings, mid-IR optical fibers and radiometric calibrations.
  • Low Cost -- $10K - $15K

 Cool Red IR Light Source

Infra red (IR) light source designed for optical fibers

The “Cool Red” borrows its name from stars that emit light mostly in the infrared part of the spectrum. It’s designed to fill the need of light sources for infrared fiber based spectroscopy.

The Cool Red accomplishes this by a unique optical and thermal design that couples light energy from a silicon Nitride emitter glowing at 1500 °Kelvin. For systems that require optical modulation, an integrated optical shutter can be modulated at frequencies of up to 200hz. The shutter can be driven externally through a 15 pin digital interface. If no external drive is available, the shutter can be driven internally by an integrated adjustable square wave generator. The frequency can be continually adjusted through the control knob on the front panel from .5hz to 200hz.. The digital output for this signal can be taken from the same 15 pin interface and used to synchronize other devices.
