Open top rectangular absorbance cuvettes, 1 – 100mm pathlength. – Style 1 – Spectrecology

The most basic, fundamental cuvette style, fits virtually all spectrophotometers. Rectangular cells. Macro cells refer to the internal volume that holds the sample. These cells have an internal width of 10mm, a length equal to the optical path length (choose from 1 to 100mm) and a height of 45 mm.  The cells come with Teflon Lids. There are two clear windows (for transmission/absorbance measurements). The sides are frosted to help eliminate stray light.

Variations on this theme include stopper topped cells, and different internal widths — 4mm semi-micro, 2mm micro.  Materials include Spectrosil quartz (170 to 2200nm), Infrasil quartz (220 – 3800nm), Glass and special optical glass. Additional options include self masking black quartz to reduce stray light and screw cap cuvettes with septa or solid caps.

Cells have Teflon stoppers to prevent evaporation of volatile solvents and aide in mixing by inversion. For long term storage of samples in cuvettes, screw cap (GL14 series) are better. Volume and material options are the same as offered for Style 1.

Plastic cuvettes are made of polystyrene (visible range) or UV transmissive polymer (UV-VIS. They come in macro, semi-micro and micro sizes.

Plastic cuvettes for fluorescence work have 4 clear sides and come in VIS or UV-VIS sizes.

Cuvettes come in Styrofoam trays holding 100 cuvettes

Accessories for cuvette based spectroscopy include cuvette racks (for standard 1cm cuvettes), cuvette lids for 1cm cuvettes and disposable transfer pipettes.
