The Flame Spectrometer back story…
User changeable slits — This is a huge benefit made possible by a unique manufacturing approach. The slits are laser cut in finished slit assemblies, which eliminates an alignment and bonding step that was not very precise in the older USB2000 and USB4000 designs. This makes it possible to change slits without changing the wavelength calibration. Now you can use the same unit for high optical resolution applications such as atomic emission, and low light level applications like fluorescence.
Thermal Stability — Knowledge gained from our Mars Rover efforts are paying off! Mechanical designs that are more a-thermal reduce wavelength and amplitude shifts with temperature. The biggest improvement comes from changing how the detector is mounted. We moved from the circuit card to its own thermally designed metal base.
Unit to Unit Reproducibility — a remarkable achievement, sub-micron controlled robotic alignment and calibration! We captured 20 years of spectroscopy craftsmanship into robust and precise algortihms and real time optimization of all optical degrees of freedom.
Toshiba and Sony Detectors — Years ago we launched the Toshiba detector when we began to run out of the SONY ILX511. Then SONY came out with the ILX511B which we adopted. But, we had fans for both detectors, and so we still offer both. The Toshiba has smaller more numerous pixels which helps when looking for the finest optical resolution, the SONY has less image lag which makes it best for pulsed stimulated emission applications or using pulsed light sources. For everything else they are pretty much comparable.

Typical System Setups
Our Flame UV-VIS spectrophotometer provides absorbance spectra from 200 – 850nm for standard 1cm cuvettes. The Flame is our newest and most thermally stable spectrometer yet. It boasts user interchangeable slits, fast data acquisition (spectra every 1 msec) and it couples to our 2500+ fiber optic accessories.
The system includes our new DH-mini deuterium-tungsten light source, fibers cuvette holder, software and cuvettes. As an added bonus, Spectrecology also includes 2 fine quartz cuvettes and a cuvette rack.
Our FLAME fluorescence system provides fluorescence emission spectra from 350-1000nm. Excitation is from a high power fiber coupled LED. The kit comes with a 365nm LED and as an added bonus Spectrecology also includes a 470nm LED that can be switched by the user. The cuvette holder features 4 ports for fluorescence or absorbance measurements, mirror inserts to enhance excitation and emission collection efficiency and a quartz fluorescence cuvette. Spectrecology also includes a pack of 100 4 sided disposable cuvettes.
SE-Flame-REFLECTANCE-VIS reflection spectrometer
The SE-FLAME-RAD is a VIS NIR Flame spectrometer equipped with a fiber and cosine corrector. The kit includes an HL-2000-CAL radiometric calibration lamp – standard light source. the system provides spectro-radiometric measurements of planar irradiance (uW/cm2/nm). The software presents many diffe
