UV VIS Light sources for spectroscopy by Ocean Optics…
feature sophisticated highly regulated power supplies to ensure stable optical output. Our UV VIS light sources are typically fiber coupled, to connect to our various accessories and spectrometers to measure absorbance/transmission, reflection/scattering, fluorescence or Raman signals. Light sources are also used as standards for optical power (radiometry) and wavelength and some are integrated into sampling optics for ease of use and compact presentation. Here you will see light sources for several Ocean Optics products.
Basic technologies include:
- Deuterium bulbs – broad band continuous arc source for UV.
- Tungsten halogen – broad band continuous hot filament source for VIS and NIR.
- Combination – co-linear arrangement of a tungsten halogen lamp with a deuterium lamp.
- Pulsed xenon – broad band pulsed arc lamp for UV-VIS
- LED – narrow band continuous light emitting diode source

The DH-mini UV VIS light source

Despite its compact size the DH-mini produces strong output across the UV-Visible and near-IR from 200-2500 nm. The tungsten and deuterium source bulbs can be turned on and off individually, limiting stray light in challenging measurements. An internal shutter can be opened and closed using simple buttons with LED indicators on the front panel. For automated processes or remote measurements, a TTL signal also can be used to control all functions. Integration with other systems is a breeze with full remote control of all functions via a 4-pin TTL connector. Galvanic isolation of the TTL pulse provides reliable performance in complicated environments like an electrically noisy production floor.

Calibration UV-VIS Light Source:
DH-3plus-CAL
The DH-3plus series of calibrated UV-Vis-NIR light sources can be used to calibrate the absolute spectral response of a spectrometer system. Using these calibrated light sources and Ocean Optics software, you can determine absolute intensity values — to a high degree of accuracy — at wavelengths from 210-2400 nm. The DH-3plus series light sources are specifically calibrated for use with a cosine corrector.
DH-3plus Series
This series offers 3.7% – 7.5% uncertainty at region 210 – 1050 nm with the option to select an extended calibration to 2400 nm. These light sources also feature an integrated shutter controlled by either TTL pulses or manually on the front of the instrument. The internal shutter blocks light completely from the sampling device, providing the most accurate dark measurements.

The DH-3plus-BAL-CAL is the world’s only balanced deuterium halogen calibration source. A system of proprietary internal mirrors and filters eliminate the D-alpha, D-beta and Fulcher lines in the deuterium source This produces a “smoother” spectrum across the entire wavelength range and producing a more reliable calibration.

HL-3P-CAL Vis-NIR Radiometric Calibration Sources
The HL-3plus family of calibrated Vis-NIR light sources can be used to calibrate the absolute spectral response of a spectrometer system. By using these new light sources and Ocean Optics software, you can determine absolute intensity values — to a high degree of accuracy — at wavelengths from 350-2400 nm.
HL-3plus Series

These sources also feature an integrated shutter controlled by either TTL pulses or manually on the front of the instrument. The internal shutter blocks light completely from the sampling device, providing the most accurate dark measurements.
Integrating Sphere Calibration Source
The HL-3plus-INT-CAL model provides direct attachment and calibration with an integrating sphere with minimum port diameter of 6 mm (INT types). The INT-CAL models have a diffuser attached to the light source to be used with an integrating sphere. Simply place the INT-CAL light source at the entrance aperture of the integrating sphere.
NOTE: Calibrated sources typically provide about 50 hours of operation before requiring recalibration, so they are not intended for use as an illuminant in day-to-day measurements. Recalibration service is available. As an alternative to purchasing a calibration source, we can perform an in-house calibration of your spectrometer system with our SPEC-CAL-UV service.

Fiber-coupled LLS LED light sources
are ideal for fluorescence spectroscopy and general fiber illumination applications. The innovative optical design of the LLS family enables highly efficient coupling into an optical fiber. Proprietary electronics provide stable, high-current operation in continuous or external trigger modes and allow the LEDs to run at high peak currents when in external trigger mode. The LED control module includes a three-way switch to adjust the light source among continuous, off and trigger modes. A second control is used to manually adjust the drive current. The LLS family includes high power LEDS from 365nm and higher and lower power UVTOP® LEDs from 240-360 nm. Users can change LED modules. Onboard circuitry tells the power supply the proper voltage and current settings for safe operation. The modular nature of the LLS LEDs also make them ideal for OEM integration.

Wavelength standard lamps…
The emission lines from atomic lamps are the most reliable standards for wavelength calibration. Resulting from atomic level transitions, these emission lines are intrinsic to the source and therefore are primary standards, requiring no calibration themselves. Atomic emission is almost infinitely narrow; meaning the position of the emission line can be accurate to 0.001 nm. This high level of accuracy and reliability make these lamps ideal for procedures from routine checks of instrument performance to total recalibration of a spectrometer. Available in configurations that span the UV to the near-IR, choose a calibration source or use a combination of different sources that match with your analytical wavelengths of interest and span your entire measurement range. These calibration sources operate with either a 12 VDC power supply (included with the source) or 9V battery.
